Lunchtime Halo Highlights: 2008-01-07

Game 1: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Guardian

Image/Video Description

Zolimox (seen behind the explosions) gets Xor1an (left foreground) with the second of two frag grenades.

Over my dead body

Xor1an gets Zolimox with the shotgun. Note Xor1an's dead body below Zolimox. (Zolimox was firing needles at Scooter, who's out of frame.)

"Cue the pyro on my entrance"

Xor1an comes up the lift between grenades Zolimox and Scooter were throwing at each other.

Xor1an sticks Zolimox with a plasman grenade and only escapes the blast by dropping to the lower level, leaving Zollimox on the level above.

Achilles Heel

Zolimox assassinates Xor1an... in the foot. (I might re-capture this, as it's a little hard to see what's happening here.)

Xor1an eliminates the competition with a grenade and some battle rifle bursts and an assassination.

Scooter steals a kill (Doobie) from Zolimox. Zolimox throws a flare towards Scooter, but it doesn't totally blind Scooter and he shoots at Zolimox anyway. Xor1an sneaks up behind Scooter and gets him with meeles just before Zolimox gets Xor1an with a grenade.

The explosion that killed Xor1an at the end of the video just above.

Grenade-face

Doobie stuck with a plasma grenade, Zolimox being hit by brute shot

Game 2: Griffball v2.1 (Assault) on GB Court v2 (Foundry)

I managed our group to break from FFA to give the wildly popular Grifball a try.

Image/Video Description

"My hammer, let me show you it"

Zolimox hammers Xor1an as he's carrying the bomb, wounding him and sending him flying. (I admit I just love the way the gravity hammer effect looks.)

Treachery afoot

cenotaph inexplicably betrays Scooter while there's nobody else nearby.

cenotaph gets an Overkill, which is not easy with 3-person teams.

Bomb's eye view

(This was the winning point.)

Game 3: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on GB Court v2 (Foundry)

Someone suggested just playing FFA Slayer in the "big empty room" of the Grifball court. I oblidged. Unfortunately, I really found it rather boring on playback. Nothing but ARs and frag grenades with just about zero terrain does not make for good screenshots and film clips.

Game 4: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on GB Court v2 (Foundry)

To make things a little more interesting than the last game, I made the starting weapons the battle rifle and the sniper rifle. I this this made for a much more entertaining game.

Image/Video Description

The odd couple

Zolimox and cazador.

The break-up

Zolimox and cazador, slightly after the above picture.

Zolimox gets a double-kill (cazador and Scooter) with one round from his sniper rifle. Scooter had already been weakened, and it hit him in the leg after a richochet.

Popularity

Doobie and cenotaph fire their sniper rifles at Zolimox.

Game 5: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Standoff

We stuck with the same starting weapons as the previous game (battle rifle and the sniper rifle), mainly because every time I play Standoff I wish I had a sniper rifle.

Image/Video Description

Xor1an uses a pair of boxes as cover while sniping at cenotaph. (Now if only he'd made the shot...)

Xor1an gets a head shot on Zolimox with almost no visibility and the bullet passing through the grass just above the ground.

Man on fire

The outline of Zolimox's shield seen through a frag grenade explosion. (Note that he's firing his battle rifle.)

Game 6: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on The Pit

We switched the weapons to rockets and hammers with infinite ammo.

Image/Video Description

cenotaph gets Xor1an with a pair of rockets. The first one wounds him, and the second one is a bit far from him but sends him flying. (I liked this because of the way he pivoted and placed the rocket close enough to kill his opponent but not himself.)

Game 7: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Candy Mountians (Snowbound)

Some players left before the last game, so I decided to use a Forged variant of Snowbound I'd run across which amused me for its out-of-bounds trickery. We also switched the weapons to all needlers and changed the leader handicap from 50% damage to 25% damage (as we know the needler is still effective with 50% damage). It turned out to be a bit silly and didn't provide anything I felt like capturing.
