Lunchtime Halo Highlights: 2008-01-21

Game 1: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on TWolf Warlock V3 (Foundry)

Since our group has considerable Halo 2 experience, I thought they would enjoy TWolf's Warlock remake which I found through MLG's "Forge the Foundry" contest.

Image/Video Description

(Not a triple kill.)

Xor1an gets a "from the grave" on Scooter, also sending two dead bodies (cenotaph and FDragon) flying.

cenotaph takes an early lead with a double kill (Zolimox and Xor1an) using the carbine.

FDragon sticks Scooter, then cazador assassinates him, denying FDragon the kill and sending the stuck body flying.

Xor1an gets a double kill (FDragon and Zolimox), then runs through the teleporter to avoid cenotaph's fire. When cenotaph follows him through, Xor1an assassinates him.

cenotaph's plasma grenade stick to Xor1an... just as Zolimox kills him.

Game 2: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Refinery V2 (Foundry)

This time we tried another one I found through MLG's "Forge the Foundry" contest: Refinery V2.

Image/Video Description

cazador snipes Xor1an.

Scooter throws a frag grenade down towards Xor1an's leader nav point, but gets FDragon instead.

Xor1an thros a frag grenade towards cenotaph's leader nav point and gets him with a lucky bank shot.

Game 3: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Guardian

Image/Video Description

At the very beginning of the game, Xor1an attempts to keep Zolimox from surviving with the needler. Unfortunately, he failed.

Elite on elite violence.

FDragon and cazador face off two times in quick succession. The first time, cazador has a shotgun. The second time, cazador has the gravity hammer. FDragon emerges victorious both times, demonstrating his mauler-fu.

Xor1an was just looking for somewhere to hide so his shields could recharge when he dropped down right where Scooter was finishing off cenotaph. Lucky Scooter gets an easy double kill.

Another mystery solved by the theater: How did FDragon fall to his death when he though he took the mini-man-cannon across to the center? The explosions from cenotaph's brute shot altered his trajectory.

Game 4: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on The Pit (Foundry)

Changes for this game:

Image/Video Description

Two shots from the same moment in time when Zolimox with the active camo is striking Xor1an down with the gravity hammer.

In the first, the outline of Zolimox is revealed by light from the hammer stike.

In the second shot, the camera is actually positioned inside the hammer strike. You can see that the hammer appears transparent, but Zolimox appears mostly solid.

A grenade changes the direction of Scooter's rocket (fired at Zolimox).

Scooter refuses to hold still, and Xor1an hammers him from too far away merely sending him flying. Scooter rockets Xor1an as he's flying away.

Scooter bulls-eyes Xor1an out of the air whils he's jumping across a gap and shooting at cenotaph and cazador.

FDragon thows a grenade at Xor1an and Zolimox (probably hoping to steal a kill or two). Xor1an's hammer knocks it away, but it explodes in mid-air and wounds him. Zolimox then gets the kill on the weakened Xor1an.

I was a bit confused when watching the replay and seeing that cenotaph got a suicide when firing a rocket with plenty of room in front of him. I found the answer by stepping through very slowly: FDragon's hammer strike knocked cenotaph's rocket straight down to his own feet just barely after it was fired. (Too bad FDragon didn't get credit.)

Game 5: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Narrows

Changes for this game:

Image/Video Description

cenotaph took the lead first, and his nav point alerted Xor1an to his use of the man cannon. Xor1an snipes him across the gap.

A different kind of splatter.

Xor1an's body and blood pictured.

Xor1an goes for a shotgun-meele combo on Zolimox and goes right off the bridge.

Xor1an shoots at a camoflauged FDragon and gets a one-shot double-kill.

"Did you hear something?"

Zolimox attempts to snipe cenotaph and cazador while using the man cannon.

Xor1an steals a kill (Scooter) from Zolimox and then wins the game with a posthumous grenade double-kill (cenotaph and Zolimox).

Game 6: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Epilation (Foundry)

This time we tried a third forged map variant I found through MLG's "Forge the Foundry" contest: Epilation.

We dropped down to just 3 players (one Xbox) before this game started.

Image/Video Description

Kill thievery.

Xor1an kills a wounded cazador, denying cenotaph a kill.

Two against one: the problem with 3-player free-for-all slayer.

A grenade double-kill.

cazador kills cenotaph just as he kills Xor1an. Xor1an drops a frag grenade before he dies, and gets a "from the grave" kill on cazador (thus completing the circle).
