Lunchtime Halo Highlights: 2008-04-14

Game 1: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Guardian

We used a slightly forged version that replaced the needler with a fuel rod gun.

We gave everyone a random secondary weapon in addition to their trusty assault rifle.

Image/Video Description

Xor1an snipes FDragon just before he makes it behind the cover of a tree.

FDragon kills cenotaph, who drops a hammer. Xor1an throws a plasma grnade at FDragon and the hammer cenotaph dropped as he died deflects it back toward Xor1an.

Bank shot

Xor1an bounces a plasma grenade off the wall behind FDragon and onto FDragon's back.

Xor1an knows cenotaph is waiting aorund the corner. He gets off a beam rifle headshot before cenotaph fires his rocket.

FDragon proves that he's the laser master in this laser duel with cenotaph.

Game 2: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Narrows

For this game we gave everyone a battle rifle as their primary weapon and a random secondary weapon.

Image/Video Description

Xor1an throws a plasma grenade just as cenotaph kills him with the needler, and for some reason it goes straight up. (Maybe the needler explosion changed its trajectory? I would expect it to have set off a grenade so close.)

cazador chases Xor1an into a bubble shield and fires a rocket at him just as Xor1an passes out of the bubble shield. cazador dies, Xor1an scores a kill and takes no damage.

"How do I get back up there?"
"Don't worry, the Guardians will bring you"

cazador pictured after a fall but before he gets killed by the guardians.

FDragons fires his brute shot at cenotaph, but cenotaph prevails with his needler.

Game 3: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on The Pit

We stuck with the settings from the last game: battle rifle as the primary weapon and a random secondary weapon.

Image/Video Description

Where does he keep getting those lasers?

FDragon lasers cazador.

Intersection. Xor1an with sniper rifle, FDragon with laser.

"Who's next?"

Xor1an hammered cazador and got some good altitude.

cazador backs Xor1an into a corner and lasers him.

Hung out to dry.

Xor1an's dead body landed across one of the walls.

Lucky cazador spawns above with a sniper rifle. Unlucky FDragon was in his sights.

FDragon catches Xor1an and cenotaph fighting and cleans up with his brute shot. (If there was a way to get a 3rd-party bull-true, FDragon might deserve one as Xor1an thought he'd executed a sword lunge on cenotaph.)

"These rockets don't seem to be working."
"What about the battle rifle?"
"Yeah, that seems to work OK."

Xor1an uses rockets to weaken FDragon and cenotaph (since he's in the lead he only does 50% damage with them) and finishes them off with battle rifle head shots.

Game 4: Handicap Leader (Slayer) on Standoff

Changes for this game:

This unfortunately didn't work so well for close-range fights.

Image/Video Description

cenotaph snipes at cazador as he lases. (It looked to me like cenotaph should have gotten a kill here, but I guess it wasn't quite a head shot.)

A fatal wound

This time cenotaph gets the kill on cazador with a different kind of head-shot.

The laser's range is not infinite. (Note that the laser struck the ground down by the mongoose, then was aimed higher.)

"They came from... behind!"

Xor1an was so worried about cenotaph sniping him from across the map (that he'd just deployed a bubble shield to protect against) that he didn't notice FDragon behind him.

cenotaph gets a great headshot on Xor1an when both of them have quite good cover. (I really couldn't believe this during the game. You'll see from my perspective as I'm trying to line up a shot that cenotaph had almost complete cover.)

Xor1an noticed that the three other players were having a close range fight without him. By the time he got there cazador had ben killed, but he got the remaoning two (cenotph and FDragon) with a sniper round and a meele.

FDragon lasing out the window of the red base. (I'm surprised more people weren't shooting out the window from the bases in the game. Maybe it's that they don't know how to open the window.)
